What Equipment Do You Need to Film an Interview?
A useful interview kit starts with four jobs: frame the subject, hold the camera steady, shape the light and record intelligible speech. Choose each part around the room, your crew and the time available.
1. Camera and support
Choose a camera and lens for your framing and working distance. Add a tripod for a consistent seated composition. Check batteries, recording media and your intended recording format before the shoot. 2. Speech recording
Place the microphone close to the speaker and listen through headphones during a test. A camera-mounted mic is a starting point for close recording; for a wider interview frame, ask about a lavalier or a separately positioned boom microphone and the recorder or camera connection it needs. Check that the room is quiet before rolling.
3. Lighting
Start with a soft source to one side of the subject, then use a second light only where it helps. Check windows and overhead room lighting so color and exposure remain consistent. 4. Before pickup
